God knew me!
Walking in with that maroon tunic sky blue shirt a striped tie, clean polished shinny black shoes was little me in what I never knew would be the beginning of my 8 year journey in a world of books concrete and play. Little did I know this would be an opening to a whole new world of possibilities, a world which meant I had to fight tooth and nail to be the best of the best and cut my own seat on the table. Well, these concrete classrooms stood between me and my future. A reality which slowly dawned on me that I was to familiarize myself with these surroundings and make friends as quickly as possible to ease this journey.
The dusty playing fields, black chalk boards, compound with acacia and tamarind trees, red colored soil which was evidently patched on our collars mixed with sweat an evidence of how much we played not forgetting our shoes, hair and lashes weren’t spared by the dust either. A film of dust coating was present anytime. In no time I would be done with my lower classes and would soon graduate the upper classes. What a joy! That meant growth and more knowledge to uncover.
This was the beginning of my responsibilities and an introduction to the world of leadership. Being the brightest, well behaved girl, the title prefect rested on my shoulders. This would be the beginning of my working hand in hand with the teachers and with my fellow pupils. I was given responsibilities like ensuring the class was swept clean and desks arranged well, in charge of coming up with a duty rota, coordinate with other prefects to lead the school assembly, write noise makers to name but a few. This ment that i’d either make friends or foes in this line of leadership.
It was never easy because sometimes my friends would be caught making noise and I’d be forced to write down their names and they would be punished which of course strained our relationship at the end of the day but I had to do what I had to. Teachers placed their trust in me, and would occasionally call me to the staff room to reward me with some of their food which was the envy of many. Send me for little tasks here and there, use me as an example in most cases, they adored me. For sure I was a teacher’s pet but I had my stripes to show.
I earned it! I was well behaved, a top performer and a good leader.
My journey in school went from one leadership post to another. I did not stop working hard, I came from a household of intelligent people. Coming from a family of an educator myself ment I had to excel , and that I did effortlessly. I cannot tell you exactly the number of Oxford sets and watches I brought home as a result of being Number one every closing day. So I went on to lead from my primary to high school to college. I have never known a stage in life where I wasn’t a leader. I now understand that this was , still is a God given role bestowed upon me to use it for His glory. Writing this down I now realize that God has planned my life to turn out this way according to
Jeremiah 1:5
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
